Analysis of Text

After reading through the extracts I decided to annotate, selecting important phases, words - anything that gave a sense of the atmosphere, lighting, detail etc. I tended to write what came into my head first, thinking about colour and levels/composition in particular. A few rough sketches were done so I can refer when making my thumbnails. All in all with this analysis and other research I'm beginning to gain a good understanding of my text and will be back into the sketch book in no time!

II A Strange World
The first landscape portrayed is a hybrid of a tropical rainforest and the sea. Lots of vegetation, trees, plants, vines etc. Pre-historic is the word that comes to mind. Thinking about Jurrassic Park and King Kong for a basis of ideas. Key words/phrases: 'weird and wonderful', 'tangled mass of fallen trunks and branches' and 'no horizon'. Colours - greens, orange, purples - thinking back to my main inspiration digital painting.

III A Change Of Masters
The second landscape has to be my favourite one to work with. The idea of a village built within the trees is an exciting concept. Tree house huts, tribal, bridges that connect the huts, tree trucks used as pathways etc. Ideas from the Disney animated Tarzan and The Swiss Family Robinsons spring to mind. Key words/phrases: 'dead branches and the trunks of small trees which connected the huts upon one tree to those within adjoining trees' 'dense village built high among the branches of the trees' 'huts'. Colours contrasting with the first landscape - darker - to set a more evil atmosphere.

VIII The Mahar Temple
The third landscape is within a temple. Materials and textures vital. Main texture is hewn rock. Inside the temple what comes to mind is the fact the majority of the lower floor is covered in clear water, so the rest is built up of rocky ledges and granite rock islands. Almost cave like. Only source of light is from the centre of the roof - IMPORTANT. Key words/phrases: cold bowlders that fringe the outer edge of the pool', 'tank of clear water in which numerous hideous Mahars swam' and 'the shape of a rough oval with a rounded roof'. Colours - purples, the water reflection is going to be key within this landscape.
